Flexcil

Price: Free

Flexcil is a hybrid note taking app along with a PDF Reader. It does all of the note taking stuff you need. You can create notes, store them, and recall them later as needed. Additionally, the app can open PDFs and let you annotate and mark up PDFs as needed. It’s a bit of a weird hybrid as we don’t normally associate note taking with PDFs, but it seems to work out rather well. This one is a huge success on iOS so we may see similar success on Android. Hit the button below to sign up for the beta and download from the Google Play Store.

Flexi

Price: Free / $1.99

Flexi is a live wallpaper from Maxelus.net, a popular maker of live wallpapers on Google Play. This one is simple, but it looks pretty good. The live wallpaper features multi-touch support, some decent customization options, and smooth animations. It worked basically as described an intended on our tester devices. However, some have complained about performance issues on lower end devices. It’s not serious but it’s something to be weary of. Additionally, Maxelus.net doesn’t have the best record with app updates. We hope this one doesn’t get left in the dust too.

Glance Weather

Price: Free

Glance Weather is a decent set of weather widgets. It shows you the basics, including current temperature, the real feel, highs and lows, and some other weather info as well. The app sources weather from NOAA, which is about as good as it gets. The hourly forecast widget looks pretty good and it does deliver a lot of info at a glance, as the name implies. Earlier versions left a little to be desired but the developer seems responsive to feedback and has improved the widgets since release.

Google Pay

Price: Free

Google Pay had a big re-launch this last month. The new version of the app still does most of the same stuff as the previous app. However, the UI is much different with a heavier focus on things like sending money to friends or businesses, like Venmo or PayPal. You can’t do this on the web version anymore and that’s a little bit lame. The app works fine in its stead. Plus, the app picked up some neat new tricks. For instance, you can have it scan your Gmail and Google Photos accounts for receipt images to take advantage of Google’s cash-back program. It’s better in some ways, slightly worse in others. It’s mostly up for individual interpretation.

Hypernotes

Price: Free

Hypernotes is another note taking app released in March 2021. However, this one is more geared for productivity than it is for your grocery lists. Don’t worry, though, it can totally still handle your grocery list. It’s a bit of a complicated approach, but to good effect. It lets you link notes together into categories so you can reference those notes together as needed. It creates a little map so you can see how all of your notes connect together and reference as needed from there. Hypernotes is definitely something a bit different and it’s definitely a little more complex than your basic app like Google Keep.

You can tell it the last time you got a haircut or the last time you exercised. It’ll basically remember anything you tell it to so you can easily customize it for your own lifestyle. The UI is Material Design and it’s also quite minimal. You should be able to easily make your way around the app after a few minutes. Otherwise, it’s simple and it does what it says it does.

Price: Free / $9.99 per month

MindTree is a meditation app. It offers up some meditation routines, music, and tips. It also plants a tree every time you meditate if you are on the premium subscription. In addition, the app tracks your activity as well as the CO2 removed from the atmosphere from the trees you planted. It’s a neat hybrid that gives you tangible rewards for treating yourself right. The subscription is a tad expensive, but it does plant trees on your behalf so at least you’re getting something out of it.

Thus, you can figure out what you can and can’t eat without making your body angry. It also works for things like the keto diet and a gluten free diet. There is an integrated calendar so you can keep track of your previous meals over a long period of time and trends to see if you’ve felt better or worse lately. Photo Snatch is an image and video downloader. It lets you download images and videos from social networks like TikTok or Instagram. The app works like most others in its genre. You simply share the link to a photo or video from a social network to the app and the app attempts to download it for you. In addition to its base functionality, the app also lets you find and remove duplicate files, play videos, and view your stuff in its gallery view. It’s not perfect, but it does a pretty good job.

Win-X Launcher

Price: Free

Win-X Launcher is an Android launcher with a really fun premise. It emulates the Windows 10 desktop and start menu on your phone. You still have your basic stuff like home screens, widget support, etc. The app drawer is cleverly hidden in a Windows 10 style start menu and you have things like a task bar and some other things. It’s a very convincing look and feel without being too difficult to use. You also get some light customization options like icon pack support. This is definitely one of the funner launchers we’ve seen in recent memory and a delightful change from the usual look and feel of a normal Android launchers.
